Pumpkin (Mathanga) Pachadi

Kerala Style Pumpkin (Mathanga )pachadi


Here I used to make Pumpkin /mathanga Pachadi. it is a slightly sweet and yogurt-based recipe. It is really tasteful. We can eat this pumpkin Pachadi along with rice. Everyone will love this pumpkin Pachadi. Mostly it's seen in Onam, Vishu sadya in Kerala. Ingredients and method of preparation of pumpkin Pachadi are described below. 
Pumpkin(Mathanga) Pachadi



Ingredients

  • Pumpkin 250g
  • yogurt   1/2 cup
  • water as required
  • grated coconut  1/2 cup
  • mustard seeds 1tbsp
  • green chilly 2 no.

for seasoning

  • mustard seeds  1/2 tbsp
  • dry red chilly  2 no.
  • curry leaf 
  • oil 2 tbsp

Method of preparing pachadi

  • Add pumpkin, water in clay pot or saucepan.
  • Cook it for 5-10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make coconut mixture by grinding coconut, 1 tbsp mustard seeds, green chilly, and make a smooth paste.
  • After that mash the cooked pumpkin under low flame and add coconut paste into it.
  • Then switch off the flame. After getting cooled add yogurt and required salt and mix it well.
For seasoning, take a small pan. Here I used a pan made up of clay.

  • Add oil 
  • After getting hot add mustard seeds
  • Splutter the mustard seeds then add red chilly.
  • Then add curry leaves.
  • Then pour into pachadi and mix them well.
Now tasty pachadi for sadya is ready.

       Pachadi is a little sweet and tangy yogurt-based recipe. Pachadi is important during sadya. Different types of pachadi are there. Cucumber pachadi, pineapple pachadi, pumpkin pachadi, beetroot pachadi, etc.


  • Add pumpkin and water and boil.

  • Mash it.


  • Grind coconut, mustard seeds, chilly into a paste.


  • Pour the mixture into pumpkin.


  • Add yogurt into the pumpkin and required salt also.


  • Mix them together.


  • For seasoning, add oil and mustard seeds.


  • When it splutters add red chilly and curry leaves




  • Pour into pachadi.



Now our pachadi ready
