How to make Kerala Style Squid Roast/ Squid Fry

I hope you will give this a try and let me know the comments from you. This Squid fry recipe I got from my sister. When I went to Kerala she prepared Squid roast/Squid fry for me. It was very different in taste. There is one ingredient making the Squid roast variety taste from others recipe. Just read and listen to the recipe by reading until the end of the page.

Here I prepared squid roast/squid fry in a variety taste.


Squid                                    500g
turmeric powder                 1 tsp
onion                                     2 No.(small)
tomato                                   a small piece
capsicum                               a small piece
green chilly                           4 no.
curry leaves
pepper powder                     1 tsp
cumin powder                      1/4 tsp 
garam masala powder        1/4 tsp
chilly red powder                2 tbsp 
tomato sauce                        2 tbsp (this is my secret ingredient)

Method of preparation

  • Wash and clean the squid(500g). Cut into ring pieces.
  • Add turmeric powder 1 tsp, required salt. Pressure cook for two whistles under medium flame.

  • To the cooked squid, add two small onion( cut into cubes)
  • small piece of tomato, and a small piece of capsicum(which cut into cubes)

  • Add four green chilly, some curry leaves, 1 tsp pepper powder,1/4 tsp cumin powder, 1/4 tsp garam masala powder,2 tbsp chilly red powder, required salt to taste, 2 tbsp tomato sauce.
  • Mix them well by adding water from cooked squid.
  • Add 2-3 tbsp oil in a pan. Add squid into oil and fry it.
